The book recounts the restoration of the furnishings designed by Gio Ponti for the Rectorate of the University of Padua starting in 1934. The architect oversaw every detail of the interiors with meticulous care and refined elegance. The furniture, still in use today, represents the best-preserved masterpieces among the many works created by the Milanese architect and designer worldwide. The philological restoration drew on drawings, sketches, and specifications preserved in the University’s Historical Archive, reviving the playful use of color that extended to the furniture, the doors and their handles, the painted walls, and the floors. The complexity of the project—through critical reflection, methodology, and the variety of objects—stands as a model for the restoration of twentieth-century works in other contexts as well.
